MonkeyBee is Back for Round Two

Updated: Jul 5, 2021

The first rendition of MonkeyBee was a celebration for the ages. Rising up as a collaboration between MonkeyBee records and the US-based Freakout Records, MonkeyBee originated in 2019 as Mexico's first independent festival focused on garage, psych, and punk rock. By bringing together notable cult classics with up and coming international and local acts, MonkeyBee has created a culture of its own.

Last year's hallucinatory experience took place on November 9th in Mexico City at the SALA Puebla.

The festival attracted a wide audience with a lineup featuring the likes of Levitation Room, Together Pangea, and Acid Tongue while local acts like San Pedro el Cortez and The Froys added to the intensity.

Overall, MonkeyBee was able to capture the essence of modern psych rock festivals like Desert Daze or Levitation due to the immersive combination of rock n roll and projector visuals. The DIY ethics that drive this festival allows it to stand out on its own with potential to last for years to come.

This year's edition of MonkeyBee is scheduled to take place on September 19th at Sangriento, Mexico City. Special pre-sale tickets are currently available on Wegow for 300 pesos ($15). Locals can also find tickets at official selling points across Mexico City.

Punk rock legends, The Spits, have been announced as the first confirmed band on the bill for this September. After 10 years, The Spits are ready to make a return to Mexico. Expect it to get out of control. More names will be announced as we get closer to the fall, so stay tuned for more news about MonkeyBee. It's bound to be a revolutionary concert experience to say the least.
